Mervin Toussaint is an active saxophonist, keyboardist, and music educator in the Philadelphia area. Mervin has performed solo as well as with a wide array of poets, singers, rappers, and spoken word artists. You can often find him playing at different venues in the city, including SOUTH Jazz Kitchen, Chris's Jazz Cafe, Dahlak Paradise, The Free Library, and Paris Bistro.
Mervin first became infatuated with music when he began playing the saxophone at age 11, and his passion for music continues to grow to this day. He studied at the University of the Arts, receiving both a Bachelor's degree in Saxophone Performance and a Master's degree in Jazz Studies. There, he studied with and was inspired by masters of the craft such as Tony Salicandro, Ron Kerber, Mark Allen, Chris Farr, John Swana, Sumi Tonooka, and Don Glandon.
Mervin shares his knowledge and experience as a private instructor, giving lessons in saxophone, piano, theory, and ear training. He also teaches at the Clef Club of Jazz and Performing Arts, where he teaches lessons and assists with ensembles.
