Voice

Baritone Jesus Vicente Murillo has been performing music professionally for nearly 11 years, and cannot wait to start sharing the amazing world of singing with you! His performance experience spans multiple genres, including opera and musical theatre, and includes concerts, plays, and other performances. He holds a Bachelor of Music degree in Vocal Performance from The University of Michigan, and a Master of Music in Opera and Voice Performance from McGill University in Montreal, Canada.

In 2019, Jesus completed a two-year residency with the Utah Opera in Salt Lake City, where he performed roles in Romeo et Juliette, The Little Prince, The Magic Flute, Candide, Moby Dick, Gianni Schicchi, The Elixir of Love, and The Messiah, in addition to creating roles in the world premieres of Jacob Lee's "The Stone, The Bird and The Tree", Michael Ching's "Completing The Picture", and Lisa DeSpain's "No Ladies in the Lady's Book." In the summer of 2019 he performed the role of Figaro in ¡Figaro! (90210) with the Chautauqua Opera, in addition to covering Dr. Bartolo in Il Barbiere di Siviglia and Louis VIX/Pasha in The Ghosts of Versailles. Other recent engagements that have featured Mr. Murillo include productions with Michigan Opera Theater, Opera Louisiane, Charlottesville Opera, The Ohio Light Opera, Opera in Williamsburg, Salt Lake Choral Artists, Fargo-Moorhead Opera, Opera Saratoga, Seagle Music Colony, Arbor Opera Theater, Bare Opera, Thompson Street Opera, Main Street Opera, and many others. Jesus recently moved to Philadelphia, PA, where he is a member of the Vox Ama Deus ensemble, and is also the Bass Soloist at All Saint's Episcopal in Wynnewood, PA.

After nearly a decade of teaching, Jesus has come to learn that there is fundamentally no one-size-fits-all method to vocal education. Flexibility, comfort, and enjoyability are the three pillars of his studio, and when supported by these pillars, both student and teacher are able to create a learning environment that allows for lessons that are not only productive, but positive and fun. With this said, it is his goal to custom-tailor his approach to each individual student, based on their technical proficiency, natural ability, and personal goals. For beginning students, lessons will approach the fundamental techniques of singing (legato, onsets, aural skills, breath support) through the lens of Choral Music, Italian Art Song, English/American Art Song, Golden-Age Musical Theater, and Vaccai exercises. More advanced students will study German/French art songs in addition to arias by Mozart, Handel, Rossini, Donizetti, Gilbert & Sullivan, Bach, and others.

Mr. Murillo looks forward to helping you create a unique game-plan to build your voice into the best instrument it can be!
