Brooke Witherite is a music teacher and board certified music therapist from Clearfield, Pennsylvania, now located in Philadelphia. She graduated from Slippery Rock University with a Bachelor of Music in Music Therapy and a concentration in classical piano in 2017. After college Brooke moved to El Paso, Texas where she taught preschool music and began her music therapy career. She currently teaches private piano and guitar lessons and provides music therapy services for individuals with disabilities. Outside of work Brooke is a passionate keyboard/pianist in a local Philadelphia indie rock band.
Brooke always gravitated towards music as a child and was inspired by her father’s love of music. She played music throughout her school years, starting with piano at age 7 and later adding guitar lessons to the mix. She continued exploring many different instruments throughout high school and college, including voice, mallet percussion, drums, and cello to expand her range and ability as a musician.
During her senior year of high school Brooke won the “Fred Waring Choral Award.” This award is given to one student per year who shows excellence through choral music. She also won the “Swope Citizenship Scholarship” in college, which is given to a student with outstanding work ethic and uplifting spirit. The highlight of Brooke's music career was the album she co-wrote with her bandmates. She draws inspiration for her music from life and the world around her. One of the most influential music teachers Brooke had was Asa Carnes, her private piano instructor throughout high school. He taught her the importance of the arts and how music could be an amazing career path for her! She hopes to have the same impact on her students.
Brooke wants every student to learn that the most difficult challenges we take on in life have the biggest and best rewards. Learning a new instrument takes time and dedication, but it is so worth the wait. Brooke helps her students learn by getting to know their individual learning style and particular needs. She teaches each student in a unique manner that reaches them specifically. She knows each student is different and has individual and specified needs. Her experience working with a wide range of people of varying abilities and ages gives her a diverse toolbox to pull from when teaching. Teaching is Brooke’s greatest passion. She finds it to be the most rewarding type of work. She feels that watching students grow as musicians, shape their skills, and gain confidence is something that cannot be matched!
