Jem Seidel grew up surrounded by music in Highland Park, New Jersey, where his passion for rhythm and melody began at an early age. His musical journey led him to pursue a Bachelor of Music degree at the Mason Gross School of the Arts at Rutgers University, where he honed his craft under the guidance of master drummers Victor Lewis and Robby Ameen. Their mentorship helped him develop a deep understanding of both the technical and expressive aspects of drumming, shaping him into a versatile and dynamic musician.
Jem's diverse musical interests have led him to explore a wide range of genres, including jazz, rock, funk, and world music. Over the years, he has had the privilege of performing at renowned venues such as the Soho Grand Hotel and Nublu in New York City, as well as the Oshkosh Jazz Festival in Wisconsin, where he captivated audiences with his dynamic stage presence and musical sensitivity. His talents have also extended into the studio, where he has recorded and collaborated with an impressive roster of esteemed artists, including John Andrews, Jackie Jones, and Max Ochs.
In addition to his performance career, Jem has dedicated himself to music education, sharing his passion and expertise with the next generation of musicians. He has been teaching private music lessons for several years, tailoring his approach to each student's unique strengths and goals. Jem remains deeply committed to both performing and teaching, continually evolving as an artist while fostering a love of music in others.
